Veterinary Technologist Assistant
Location : Vancouver, BC
Department : Cardiology
We are expanding our Cardiology service at Vancouver Animal Emergency and Referral Centre and are welcoming a dedicated, full-time Veterinary Technologist Assistant to join this unique referral service.
The position is equally client and patient focused, and offers an interesting and diverse day-to-day experience! The cardiology service focuses on both excellence in patient care and client-centered communication.
This position is ideal for someone who has above-average attention to detail, organizational skills and should have a strong desire to learn the why behind tasks and procedures that are completed.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with an interest in complex medical cases as the opportunity to learn and grow in the field is second-to-none.
The successful candidate will be joining a close-knit team who work well together, and we are looking for a great fit to make our team even stronger.
Schedule : Hours of work will generally be Monday to Thursday 8am-6pm, however candidates should have some flexibility, should coverage be needed in other areas of the hospital on various days.
Education :
Candidates should have completed a Veterinary Assistant Certificate Program, or have previous experience in a busy veterinary practice.
Veterinary assistants in our hospital are encouraged to grow and expand their skill sets. We offer continuing education opportunities at the hospital throughout the year, in addition to those offered locally in the community.
VTA Duties and Responsibilities :
Animal handling and restraint of dogs and cats
Assisting with positioning for radiographs, bloodwork, EKG and ultrasound
Lab sample preparation & processing;
Client communication which includes : in person, by phone, by email
Client phone calls and regular client follow up
Digital file organization and maintenance
Monitoring of the Cardiology email inbox, disseminating information where appropriate
Answer owner and referring veterinarian related questions
Attend staff meetings
Re-stocking medical supplies
Various cleaning duties laundry, dishes, cleaning kennels
Assisting the Specialist and RVT in any other appropriate capacity
Skills and knowledge :
Previous experience in an emergency / specialty setting is beneficial, however it is not a requirement. Experience in a GP setting is also an asset, however recent grads who are motivated and confident in their abilities and possess above-average communication skills are also encouraged to apply.

Familiarity with dog / cat breeds and breed disposition
Knowledge of the use, care, and storage of veterinary instruments, materials, and equipment.
Awareness of the hospital's policies and procedures
Know and use standard medical and business abbreviations
Have physical strength and ability to stand for an entire shift when needed & lift up to 30lbs
