Description
The Community Program Supervisor will lead a small team supporting the programs of The Salvation Army Georgina Community Church that help to connect members of the wider community with services that meet human needs.
Within the context of The Salvation Army, they will work cooperatively with the corps officers, church staff, and volunteers in all aspects of the summer programs and events.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Co-plan with Young People's Sargeant-Major a one (1) week summer VBS (Vacation Bible School) program
- Create event flyers for local Salvation Army events and decide on plan for distribution with team
- Develop plan for summer social media engagement
- Administrative duties of sorting and organizing program files and supplies, registration forms
- Rearranging, organizing, sorting items in Family Services offices to prepare the space for future programming.
- Engage in ongoing planning to ensure programming reflects client needs through changing social, cultural, and economic conditions
- Manages and creates content for social media channels
- Assist with ensuring the emotional wellness and personal development of participants
- Refer clients to Corps Officer for pastoral assistance
Written and Verbal Communication
Document, process, and report as needed and provide recommendations to resolve issues and problems
Reporting
- Create and maintain a list of reports required for health and safety compliance purposes
- Support external reporting requests as needed
Health and Safety
- Adherence to all health and safety standards
- Assist with ensuring that the work area is maintained in organization, appearance, maintenance, cleanliness, etc.
- Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures
Perform other related duties as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS :
- This is a temporary full-time position based on 35 hours per week for 8 weeks from July 2, 2024, to August 26, 2024
- The Supervisor will set the hours of work and work schedule
- Required to wear appropriate Salvation Army identification
- This job requires reaching, bending, and stooping frequently, working in a standing position for long periods of time
- Ability to lift / move up to 29 lbs. (13.1542 kg)
- Working environment includes both indoor and outdoor service areas in generally agreeable conditions.
- Some travel within Georgina to attend community events and pick-up supplies etc. is required using the Ministry Unit program vehicle when available
Normal hours of work : 9 : 00 a.m. to 4 : 30 p.m. Monday to Friday and includes a ½-hour unpaid meal break. Some flexibility in scheduling is required and there may be occasional work required during evenings and / or weekends.
The hours of work and work schedule will be set by the supervisor as per operational requirements
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT :
- Submit as required a Police Record Check (vulnerable sector check) that is acceptable to The Salvation Army in its sole discretion
- This position is funded in part through the Canada Summer Jobs Program and the following represents the applicant criteria :
- aged 15 to 30 years at the beginning of the employment period;
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment*; and,
- holds a valid Social Insurance Number; and,
- be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
- International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada.
- An ongoing condition of employment is the ability to maintain immigration status to legally remain and work in Canada which is supported by valid immigration documents.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS :
- Completion of a minimum of grade twelve (12)
- Current valid Safe Food Handling and First Aid / CPR Certifications or willingness to obtain
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE :
- Minimum of three (3) months of prior related experience working and / or volunteering in community-based programs, including experience planning or implementing community events
- Some prior supervisory experience preferred
- Good computer skills and experience using Microsoft Office
- Valid Ontario Class G Driver’s License, a current copy of a driver’s abstract for review and verification that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required
