Assistant Swim Team Coach (Part-time)

The Arbutus Club has been a landmark in Vancouver since 1964. Today, we are a modern recreation complex with first class food and beverage services.

The Arbutus Club is looking for a candidate to work Monday through Friday, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. In addition, the candidate should be able to assist with swim meets and special events as needed.

This position requires a long-term commitment to help build a stroke and safe swim team environment. If you love swimming and enjoy working with children, we would like to meet you.

The focus is not on high performance but on teaching the four strokes : freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Teaching Techniques :
  • Instruct swimmers on the four strokes, ensuring they understand and can execute them properly.
  • In-Water Coaching : Be able to get in the water with specific groups and levels to provide hands-on instruction.
  • Safety :
  • Ensure a safe environment for all swimmers. Teach and enforce safety rules and regulations.
  • Progress Tracking : Monitor the progress of each swimmer, providing constructive feedback and encouragement.
  • Team Building :
  • Foster a positive team environment that emphasizes improvement and mastery of skills over competition.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a swim coach or similar role.
  • Knowledge of swimming strokes and teaching techniques.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience and the ability to instruct children of varying skill levels.
