The Water Resources Team, within the Environment and Regulatory Department, supports water management across Cenovus’s operations.

This includes technical expertise for water sourcing, disposal, and environmental hydrogeology; water metrics for ESG, compliance, and stakeholder reporting;

identification of water risks and creation of water management plans; assessment of emerging water regulations; and, participation in joint industry water initiatives.

This position gives you the opportunity to support the Water Resources Team in fulfilling its objectives. The student will support Cenovus hydrogeologists in technical assessments, water data management, development of water management plans, water licensing and reporting, and development of water data visualizations.

The successful candidate will be a strong communicator and collaborator with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

What you’ll do

Supporting Cenovus hydrogeologists in technical work including groundwater source and wastewater disposal assessments, geologic / hydrogeologic mapping of aquifers using well logs, regional and site groundwater flow assessments, contaminant hydrogeology and groundwater risk assessments, base of groundwater protection assessments, hydrogeologic reporting, and review and assessment of water quality data

Water data management

Development of water management plans

Surface water and groundwater licensing and reporting

Utilizing data analytics software to create water data visualizations

Who you are

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum qualifications :

Legally authorized to work in Canada full-time for the duration of your work term and able to produce documentation upon application (e.g., work visa)

Available to begin work in May 2025

Resourceful, strong communicator and collaborator

Completion of undergraduate course in physical and / or contaminant hydrogeology a benefit

Experience with geologic mapping / log interpretation a benefit.

Education

Must be enrolled in a Geology or Environmental Engineering Undergraduate Program at an accredited post-secondary institution at the time of intended work term and returning to full-time studies after the work term OR registered in an accredited post-secondary co-op or internship program for the duration of the work term

Candidates currently enrolled in either a Masters or Ph.D. program at an accredited post-secondary institution may also be considered

New graduates are not eligible for student opportunities.
