Safety Representative
Location : Calgary, AB.
Position Overview :
JSG is seeking a dedicated and experienced Safety Representative for a contract role with our client, focused on a large-scale solar energy project.
This role involves working on-site a couple of days a week to ensure that all safety protocols and regulations are strictly adhered to, promoting a safe and healthy work environment.
Key Responsibilities :
1. Safety Protocols Implementation :
- Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies and procedures in accordance with regulatory requirements and company standards.
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
2. Training and Education :
- Provide safety training and education to all project personnel, including orientations for new employees and ongoing training sessions.
- Ensure all workers are knowledgeable about safety practices and emergency procedures.
3. Incident Management :
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses to determine causes and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain detailed records of incidents and prepare comprehensive reports for management and regulatory bodies.
4. Risk Assessment :
- Perform regular risk assessments and hazard analyses to identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Monitor the effectiveness of safety measures and recommend improvements as necessary.
5. Compliance and Reporting :
- Ensure compliance with all local, provincial, and federal safety regulations and standards.
- Prepare and submit safety reports to project management and regulatory authorities as required.
6. Safety Culture Promotion :
- Promote a culture of safety within the project team, encouraging proactive safety behaviours and attitudes.
- Act as a safety advocate, providing guidance and support to all team members regarding safety-related matters.
Qualifications :
Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field. Relevant certifications (e.
g., CRSP, CSP) are highly desirable.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a safety role, preferably within the renewable energy or construction industry.
- In-depth knowledge of safety regulations and best practices.
- Excellent communication and training skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Proficiency in safety management software and tools.
