Mendip Vale Medical are looking for further Prescription Clerks to join our team in Langford, as we expand in our friendly and innovative practices serving over 85,000 patients within our 10 sites in North Somerset, Bristol & South Gloucester.

As a Prescription Clerk you will assist patients by dealing with their medication enquiries, processing medication requests and signposting them to the most appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way.

Main duties of the job

Working as part of a team the post-holder will assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate help in order to effectively manage their medication and health needs.

Managing the expectations of patients, their carers or guardians in a courteous and efficient way to provide a high standard of patient focused service.

The post-holder will pro-actively communicate relevant information between patients and their healthcare professional.

The Prescription Clerk will develop good working relationships with :

  • Patients
  • GP's, Pharamacists, Nurses and other surgery staff
  • Community Pharmacy

Key Responsibilities :

  • To support the Patient Services Manger in the delivery of safe and efficient responses to patient medication requirements.
  • Working in our telephone hub being the first contact to our patient enquiries relating to medicines and processing prescription requests.
  • Checking and completing of tasks as appropriate.
  • Control all patient files and related admin to required quality standards and in line with information governance, GDPR and DPA regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records.

Job responsibilities

Working as part of a team the post-holder will assist patients in obtaining their medications in a timely and safe manner, also ensuring that patients are directed to appropriate services relating to their healthcare in a courteous, efficient and effective way.

The Prescript Clerk will develop good working relationships with :

Patients

GP, nurses and other surgery staff

External Organisations Community Pharmacy

Key Responsibilities :

To support the Team Leader in the delivery of safe and efficient responses to patient medication requirements.

Dealing with queries and repeat prescription requests in person, by telephone and electronically, ensuring all current medication has relevant, current authorisations.

Making of relevant appointments by telephone using a computerised system.

Dealing with clerical matters such as emails, changes of patient details, EPS nominations, completion of forms etc. as required.

Work closely with the Clinical Pharmacist team, acting upon any relevant prescribing changes as instructed to assist with cost effective prescribing, QOF compliance and prescribing targets.

Checking and completion of tasks as appropriate.

Control all patient files and related admin to required quality standards and in line with information governance, GDPR and DPA regulations.

Maintain accurate records.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

GCSE in English and Maths at Grade C or above, or equivalent experience.

Desirable

  • NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services
  • Prescription Clerk Training / Medicines Optimisation Training

Skills / Abilities

Essential

  • Ability to prioritise tasks and manage competing demands on time, ensuring all deadlines are met.
  • Able to apply tact and sensitivity to establish trust and confidence.
  • Good communication skills, able to communicate effectively across different levels

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of delivering customer service in an NHS environment or similar patient / customer facing role.
  • Administrative Experience.

Desirable

  • Experience of medicines management
  • Experience of implementing service improvements
  • Use of patient records systems (EMIS)
