THE COMPANY
Our client is Canada’s leader in the design and manufacture of access products for the water and wastewater industry. Their primary product offering includes access hatches, ladders, safety landings, railings and climbing rungs.
They were founded in 1977 and has operated for the past 46 years out of its manufacturing facility located in Mississauga, ON.
THE POSITION
Reporting to the Welding Supervisor, the Welder Fitter fabricates custom aluminum and stainless-steel access products from engineered drawings.
The Welder Fitter is responsible for fitting, tacking, welding and assembly of products to quality standards.
Our client is Canadian Welding Bureau certified to CSA Standards W47.1 and W47.2. The Welder Fitter is required to pass in house CWB tests for the following certifications :
Tickets for welding stainless steel to CSA W47.1 :
- FCAW Flat / Horizontal (Class S) and Flat / Horizontal (Class FW)
- GTAW Flat / Horizontal / Vertical Up / Vertical Down
Tickets for welding aluminum to CSA W47.2 :
- GMAW Vertical Down and Flat / Horizontal
- GTAW Flat / Vertical Up
Most of the material being welded is 1 / 4 or 3 / 8 thick grade 6061-T6 aluminum.
We do not weld carbon steel at this facility.

Responsibilities
- Interpret drawings, work-orders, and bill of materials to determine material requirements, product layout and dimensional criteria for goods being produced.
- Follow welding and assembly procedures to efficiently make quality products and parts.
- Accurately fit, layout, tack and weld finished goods to within a 3mm tolerance.
- Pick parts, hardware, gaskets, and subassemblies as indicated on the work-order.
- Use shear, mill, drill press, iron worker, saws and production equipment as required.
- Daily reporting of material usage on work-orders.
- Daily reporting on labor tickets of the amount of time spent on each project.
- Fill out quality control checklists and correct any issues upon inspection by the supervisor.
- Maintain a clean and organized weld-bay and working environment.
- Appropriate maintenance and upkeep of job-related equipment.
- Work in a safe manner that complies with company health and safety stands and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- All other duties that serve the company and the customer (i.e., sweep, clean, cut, grind etc.).
Required
- 5 Years’ experience with MIG welding Aluminum.
- Familiar with CWB environment, previously certified under CSA W47.1 and / or W47.2.
- CWB certifications in GMAW, GTAW and / or FCAW processes.
- Strong blueprint reading capabilities to fit and layout parts to achieve a quality finished product.
- Solid understanding of welding and welding procedures.
- Knowledge of metalworking equipment, tools, materials, and processing techniques.
- Detail oriented, organized, and able to follow instructions.
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Strong work ethic with a sense of responsibility, ownership, and accountability.
- Ability to meet assigned deadlines, collaborate effectively with the team and work autonomously as required.
- Solid math and measurement skills (i.e., conversion from fractional to decimal and metric to imperial).
Preferred
Counterbalance forklift license.
