We are looking for a dynamic and motivated individual to join Argo Lumber, a corporate family member of the Alpa Lumber Group and be a part of the largest Lumber, EWP, CSP, OSB, TRUSS supplier in Ontario.

Argo Lumber is currently looking for a responsible Mill Operator, responsible for operating and maintaining the mill in order to fulfill customer orders.

The Mill Associate will cut and sort required material, while adhering to all company policies and safety regulations. This is a permanent full time position.

Job Responsibilities :

Mill Operations :

  • Operate the machinery as well as monitor and verify it is operating correctly at all times
  • Perform quality checks as required
  • Cut and sort lumber required to fulfill customer orders
  • Stock and maintain the required raw materials at each station
  • Ensure stock of material is cut one day ahead of tables
  • Remove finished goods from each station and ensure that they are stocked in a designated area
  • Ensure equipment and tools are well maintained
  • Ensure saws are loaded at the end of the day
  • Ensure saw areas are cleaned and neatly stacked for ease of locating product

Department Health & Safety :

  • Ensure compliance to all Health & Safety Rules & Regulations for a safe workplace
  • Ensure safety apparatus are used when operating equipment – hard hats, protective eyewear, gloves, clothing, bibs, ear plugs, traffic cones, etc.
  • Complete daily maintenance and safety checks on equipment

General :

  • Participate in physical inventory counts 4 times annually, on Saturdays as scheduled by the GM
  • Complete other tasks as required.

Skills / Requirements

  • Experience working in a mill or lumberyard preferred
  • Basic knowledge of lumber and building products
  • Knowledge of lumber grades a plus
  • High school diploma
  • Experience operating fork lifts and saws
  • Basic software computer skills - Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Excellent time management and organizational ability
  • Demonstrate high ethical and moral standards
  • Basic English and communications skills
  • Able to multi-task, learn and apply new information quickly
  • Comfortable with variable workloads
  • Detail-oriented individual who adheres to aggressive timelines

Working Conditions

  • Able and willing to work construction hours (7 : 00-5 : 00 weekdays, occasional weekends and Stat holidays) as business needs dictates, in a fast paced environment with continuous change
  • Able to work in a plant or lumber yard environment with noise, debris, unsecured materials etc. where attention, caution, and care must be exercised to avoid personal injury
  • Comfortable working in all weather conditions
  • Able to wear protective equipment like hard hats, safety boots, safety glasses and earplugs
  • Requires physical stamina to stand throughout the shift and lift moderately heavy items
  • Able to lift lumber and bulky building material of varying size
