About

Apex Systems is hiring for a Learning Specialist with experience in instructional design and training facilitation for a client in the Home and Auto Insurance industry.

Title : Learning Specialist

Employment type : 6 month contract to hire

Hours : 40 hours per week

Location : Markham, Ontario (hybrid schedule)

Responsibilities : Facilitate and / or design / develop training programs

Tasks : Facilitation

  • Facilitate training sessions that engage participants and help them explore their learning through a variety of adult learning principles
  • Facilitate technical and business skills training to new hires and existing Associates; must have a level of in-depth knowledge of one or more of our core business areas : insurance, road service, IT, call centre, or retail.
  • Facilitate sessions using various training methods

In-class, including on-site and off-site locations

Online, including live WebEx

  • Manage classroom dynamics to maximize learning and monitor the progress of participants
  • Research and provide follow-up responses to unresolved items / questions that arise during training
  • Create recordings of training sessions accessible to Associates online
  • Facilitate train-the-trainer sessions to prepare other trainers to deliver with the same consistent standards of delivery excellence for specific courses

Tasks : Design and Development

  • Perform needs analysis to identify learning gaps and opportunities. Includes, but is not limited to :
  • Identify the business need
  • Collect supporting data
  • Analyze the data
  • Evaluate and select learning solutions
  • Write Report of Findings
  • Present Report of Findings to clients
  • Develop the design plan to provide the framework for the training solution. The design plan includes a variety of adult learning principles to address different learning styles
  • Development of implementation plan
  • Development of communication plan
  • Design and develop learning solution content including :
  • Development of learning materials (e.g., Facilitator Guides, Participant Guides, Job Aids, -Presentations, Activity Book, FAQ, Learning Interactivities, online modules, videos)
  • Design and develop tools used to evaluate learning (e.g., Participant Evaluation of the course, Pre and Post Assessments, and Post Mortems)
  • Update all existing learning materials, as required, to ensure that training is aligned with business goals
  • Has an in-depth knowledge of design principles and is able to design complex technical projects

Project Management :

Manage medium- to large-scale training projects from end-to-end, including all steps of the instructional design and / or facilitation process, budget, scheduling, resource allocation, and reporting / evaluation, with minimal guidance.

Client Support :

  • Build and maintain a respected partnership with key Business Stakeholders and external clients through providing stellar customer service and recommendations, including consultation with guidance
  • Liaise with vendors on behalf of the Lines of Business to source learning programs for their training requirements
  • Contact other client departments to share best practices and collaborate on training programs as required

Administration :

Coordinate activities and resources that impact training events :

  • Source and reserve training facilities / locations
  • Create training schedules
  • Manage participant lists
  • Coordinate internal and external resources
  • Ensure adequate training supplies are provided for each session and replenished as needed
  • Analyze training evaluations (Level 1 and 2) for program enhancements and opportunities.
  • Attend regular meetings in order to provide an update on training, projects, and goals

Required Experience :

  • 3-5 years designing of training programs
  • 3-5 years of facilitation of training programs
  • Experience working with insurance in some capacity (auto & home preferred)
  • Training / teaching
  • Course design and development and project management
  • Manage classroom and client dynamics
  • Organizational skills
  • Time management skills

Preferred Skills :

  • Experience in specialty commercial home and auto insurance
  • Experience using Guidewire
  • Authoring tool experience (EX : Camtasia, Canva)

Required Education :

Bachelor’s degree in Education or similar designation

Certification : Adult Learning Certification required. CTDP or equivalent designation.
