About

Our Emergency Response division in Bowmanville is looking for a Heavy Equipment (Excavator) Operator to join its team!

Safely operate and / or have the ability to operate various equipment including excavator and other heavy equipment : mini excavator, skid steer, and / or back hoe.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Conduct environmental clean-up activities
  • Ensure Hazardous-Materials incident mitigation
  • Perform chemical transfers
  • Perform technical rescue activities
  • Involvement in chemical firefighting tasks
  • Provide dangerous goods consulting
  • Participate in various Industrial services
  • Responding to various emergencies as requested
  • Participating in job specific and health & safety training as required
  • Operating his / her position in an efficient and safe manner
  • Participating in standby confined space rescue work
  • Completing work related documentation and reporting
  • Follow all established organizational policies and procedures.
  • Support the vision and values of the organization.
  • Promote and participate in a work environment free of workplace harassment and violence.
  • Perform work in a safe manner, so as not to endanger oneself or others.
  • Reporting workplace hazards, accidents or other occurrences that may pose a risk to the organization or the safety of oneself or others.
  • Adhere to the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Workplace Safety & Insurance Board Act, Ontario Human Rights Code and Employment Standards Act.
  • Participate in team / staff meetings when required.
  • Work in a manner that preserves confidentiality and minimizes risk.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

  • Post-secondary education, preferably in a related area of study
  • Pre-service Fire, Medical, or Police training
  • NFPA 472 Hazardous Material Operations
  • NFPA 1001 level 1 or 2
  • On-call work availability for emergency response
  • Hazardous materials and / or environmental experience an asset
  • Vacuum truck experience an asset
  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Confined space awareness
  • Reliable means of personal transportation
  • Willingness to work at extreme heights and within confined spaces
  • Participate in pre-employment and post-incident drug & alcohol testing
  • Professional and trustworthy, with a customer focus to his / her work
  • Must be a highly motivated, service and team-oriented individual with a strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Valid Certification in First Aid / CPR (or willingness to obtain)
  • Bilingual English / French or other languages an asset.
