About
Job Description
Perform Field Testing of Water samples
Witness and observe how samples are taken and direct the vessel personnel when necessary
Receive, inspect, sort and label client samples
Deliver and ship samples to the Laboratory
Observe sampling of other commodities following established protocols
Sort, crush, pulverize, split and screen samples as required
Archive, return or dispose of client samples as per work sheet instructions
Log client samples into the system and prepare sample labels
Conduct basic testing and basic measurements in the field
Work from sketches, detailed specifications and verbal instructions
Calibration and set up of equipment prior to analysis
Maintain and record equipment calibrations
Carries out routine equipment maintenance under the direction of his / her supervisor
Interpret and evaluate all results
Compiles data, analyses and prepares reports
Maintain a clean working environment
Follow all company health, safety and environmental policies
Follow all Quality system protocols and report any discrepancies to the Supervisor
May be asked to work in other SGS areas when needed
Some independent judgement required
Qualifications
High School Diploma (or equivalent) required.
Post-Secondary Education (degree or diploma) in a Science related program (Chemistry) is a strong asset.
1 3 years’ experience in a related industry a strong asset but not required
Good hand eye coordination when handling samples and various equipment
Must have a valid driver's License (Class 5 Minimum) or equivalent from another province.
Must be comfortable with occasional travel and a flexible schedule.
Must be comfortable with working outdoors.
Candidate must have the ability to use various types of computer software (word, excel, etc.)
Demonstrates good verbal and written communications skills.
Ability to work well with others and independently.
Works well under pressure.
Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner.
Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment.
Proven time management skills and a strong attention to detail.
Extended hours and shift work may be required from time to time.
Travel to other SGS locations or client locations may be required from time to time.
