Reporting to the Foreman, the Dozer Operator is responsible for safe and efficient operation of a dozer. A Dozer Operator will perform duties as assigned to ensure that completed work is delivered according to McNally Contractors Ltd.

s company policies and procedures, Alberta Occupational Health and Safety, and Contract specifications.

Position Accountabilities :

  • Operate a dozer and other heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner.
  • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment.
  • Perform routine cleaning and maintenance to ensure smooth operation.
  • Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment, and clean, lubricate and refuel equipment, as necessary.
  • Understand, interpret, and follow directions from supervisors as to required work area.
  • Operate dozer controls to regulate height and angle of a dozer blade and lower ripper to loosen packed soil to permit grading.
  • Ensure sound understanding of ground disturbance requirements.
  • Operate a dozer in successive passes over construction surface to raise or lower terrain to specified grade following markings on grade stakes or hand signals.
  • Use a dozer to level soil, and / or move rock / debris.

Working Environment / Conditions :

  • Work is performed in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.
  • Overtime as required.
  • Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 20 lbs. on a regular basis.
  • Possible out of town work on a required basis.

The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following :

Qualifications & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent; with experience in related construction activities.
  • 2 to 3 years’ experience operating a dozer is required.
  • Knowledge of other heavy equipment.
  • Valid Ground Disturbance certificate.
  • Knowledge of road construction materials, road construction processes and industry requirements.
  • Understanding of computerized controls and electronics.
  • Valid Class 5 Operator’s License; with clean Driver Abstract.
