Position Rationale :
The Bridge Worker III is a competent bridge worker with experience in all aspects of the actual maintenance and construction of bridge structures.
At various times, the Bridge Worker III may be working as a carpenter, concrete finisher, sand-blaster, painter, steel-man (structural or re-bar), rigger, equipment operator, flag-person, general labourer, etc.
The work involves a wide variety of activities using numerous different tools, equipment, and materials.
Position Accountabilities :
- Operate and perform minor maintenance on equipment such as jackhammers, drills, chainsaws, tampers, sandblasters, and concrete vibrators.
- Work on the structural steel and concrete components of bridges, and assist in bridge washing, cleaning, painting, sandblasting, sealing, grouting, placing structural concrete, etc.
- Handle various toxic products such as epoxies, grouts, sealers, paints, thinners, and cleaners.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
- Experience in heavy civil construction.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team to complete the task at hand.
- Ability to work with and around heavy construction equipment.
- Ability to work with a variety of new and salvage materials ensuring optimum usage.
- Ability to work with a variety of hand and power tools and equipment used in bridge work.
Working Environment / Conditions :
- Awareness of one’s own condition and relative fitness to ensure total readiness for work.
- Work at considerable heights, performing strenuous work in an outdoor setting,
- Out of town and weekend work is expected.
The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following :
Qualifications & Experience
- High School education or equivalent.
- Ability to work as a lead hand.
- Class 3 Alberta Vehicle Operator’s License.
- Standard First Aid Certificate.
- Applicable Alberta Construction Safety Association Training.
- Ability to perform heavy strenuous work in an outdoor construction site setting.
- Ability to work at considerable heights.
- Awareness of one’s own condition and relative fitness to ensure total readiness for work.
- Ability toact in a courteous manner in order to project a positive Company image.
- Knowledge of accepted bridge construction practices.
- Ability to read detailed engineering drawings.
- Awareness of various applicable Acts and Regulations.
