Job Summary
This position provides the opportunity to work with state-of-the-art laser processing equipment, as well as the latest in robotics and machine tool technology.
This is a hands-on technical position working with machinery and electronics in a research & applications laboratory setting.
You will be responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, operator training, and documentation of a wide variety of high-end industrial equipment, including lasers, laser heads, robots, PLCs, fieldbus communication systems, sectioning / polishing machines, microscopes, and more from a variety of globally-known brands.
This equipment is used to support R&D efforts on next-generation process monitoring and control technologies, and for process testing and operator training with respect to specific customer applications in a wide range of advanced manufacturing sectors.
This is a full-time, on-site position at our Kingston, Ontario facility.
Responsibilities :
- Management and scheduling of the Applications Lab resources
- Technical direction and assistance to employees and customers making use of the equipment
- Preparation of robot & laser equipment with appropriate laser beam delivery configurations, fieldbus configurations, control wiring, etc.
for specific experiments
- Planning and design of simple automation systems
- Regular maintenance and service history tracking of all equipment
- Troubleshooting & repair of various laboratory electronics and control systems
- Regular updating and enforcement of training manuals and standard operating procedures
- Assisting with metallographic cross sectioning and polishing
- Analysis of test results using electronic reporting
- Additional projects as needed.
Requirements
- College diploma in industrial automation, electronics, robotics, or a related field plus 3-5 years experience in a similar role, *OR* University engineering degree ( / in a related field plus 2-3 years experience in a similar role
- Experience in electronics, robotics, controls & automation, welding applications, and / or manufacturing technology
- Fluency in two or more of the following CNC / Robot programming environments : G-Code, ABB, Kuka, Fanuc
- Fluency in one or more common PLC / Ladder Logic programming environments
- Experience implementing and configuring one or more common factory automation / fieldbus network (EtherCAT, Ethernet / IP, DeviceNet, etc.)
- Excellent problem-solving abilities
- Well-organized and able to operate independently to accomplish clearly-stated goals with minimal direct supervision
- Strong professional communication, negotiation, and teaching skills in the English language are essential
- Proficiency in any other language from this list is not essential, but may be an asset : Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, German, Italian, French, Polish
