About

Responsibilities :

  • Perform a variety of basic and routine clerical and secretarial duties. These may include but are not limited to preparing and typing routine correspondence, answering telephone & routing calls to the appropriate person, greeting patients and visitors, completing forms and reports as required by outside vendors and agencies, and assisting with other departmental responsibilities as needed.
  • Follows established processes to obtain, manage and utilize patient information to enhance and improve individual and organizational performance in patient care.
  • Assures a current and complete medical record is obtained for every patient admitted to the facility.
  • Demonstrates familiarity with insurance procedures and verifies OHIP information when scheduling patients.
  • Books, organizes, plans and collects all relevant information required for cataract, retina and glaucoma surgery.
  • Assists in maintaining and managing inventory of supplies for the clinic and manage the receipt and delivery of all supplies.
  • Interact with both internal and external customers and exchange information regarding availability of supplies and product information.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Abilities :

  • Ability to analyze, interpret and solve patient related issues.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to deal with multiple tasks, tight timelines and peak busy periods.
  • Ability to communicate in a professional manner with physicians, patients and colleagues.

Required Knowledge and Experience :

  • Minimum one (1) years of experience in an ophthalmology clinic or hospital setting preferred.
  • Previous experience working in a fast-paced, medical environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite 2010 (particularly Word, Excel & PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of electronic OHIP billing an asset.
  • Knowledge of electronic medical records or electronic health records (EMR an asset).

Required Professional Designation / Certificate :

  • Post-secondary education in Business Administration or other related discipline.
  • Medical Administration Diploma.
